Bonne fête nationale de la France
art digital, 2025
Instead of using the national animal (the rooster), which I don't feel truly represents the country, I chose the wolf (in general)—a symbol of loyalty, ferocity, and revolution—to reflect an emblem that closely embodies the spirit of the citizens of that era. Why is July 14th France’s national holiday? July 14th is France’s national holiday because it commemorates the storming of the Bastille in 1789, a pivotal event in the French Revolution. The Bastille was a fortress and prison in Paris that symbolized the absolute power of the monarchy and the oppressive regime. When revolutionaries stormed the Bastille, it marked the beginning of a widespread uprising against tyranny and the fight for liberty, equality, and fraternity. This event signified the end of the old regime and the rise of a new era for France, emphasizing the people's desire for freedom and democratic principles. Over time, July 14th has become a symbol of national unity, revolutionary spirit, and the values of the French Republic. It is celebrated annually with fireworks, parades, and patriotic festivities, honoring the courage and spirit of the French people who fought for their rights and a new future.
