French School - The Austerlitz Table inlaid with Sevres plaques commemorating Napoleons victory at Austerlitz 1808-10 (gold porcelain) (see also 232838) - (MeisterDrucke-65170)

2026

This exquisite Sèvres porcelain plate belongs to the renowned Service Particulier de l'Empereur (The Emperor's Particular Service), also known as the "Service des Quartiers Généraux" (Headquarters Service). It was commissioned by Napoleon I in 1807 to commemorate the grand triumphs of his reign.

The central scene, painted with exceptional precision, depicts the arrival of the sword of Frederick II (Frederick the Great) at the Hôtel des Invalides in Paris in 1806. After his victory over Prussia, Napoleon visited Frederick's tomb at Potsdam and took the late king's sword and sash as trophies, famously remarking, "Hats off, gentlemen; if he were alive, we wouldn't be here today". The background features the recognizable dome and architecture of the Invalides complex.

Central Painting: A polychrome scene showing a horse-drawn ceremonial carriage carrying the sword, surrounded by soldiers and spectators.

Border (Marli): A deep green ground (chrome green) decorated with a gold frieze of imperial swords interwoven with laurel garlands and five-pointed stars, symbolizing military victory and glory.

Gilding: Highly detailed burnished gold ornamentation characteristic of the First Empire style.
