An open book, yet no longer readable. A memory that has passed through fire. A surface transformed into a wound. At the center of the work, an ancient volume, burned, its pages corroded and blackened, warped by heat until they become a sculpture. The text survives only as a trace, as a visual echo of knowledge that can no longer be deciphered. The book—universal symbol of knowledge, culture, and transmission—is suspended here between destruction and permanence.
Around it, a dense pattern of nails pierces the wood like a field of tension. The gesture is repeated, obsessive, almost ritualistic. The metal interrupts the surface and alters the perception of light: the light fractures on the points, creating vibrations and shifting shadows that make the work feel alive and mutable in space.
The reference to Bernard Aubertin’s explorations is clear in the choice of the nail as a conceptual element. Yet here, the emotional component is more narrative: fire and combustion introduce a powerful symbolic dimension, linked to memory, censorship, and the fragility of knowledge.
