A typewriter — universal symbol of free thought, memory, and creation — is held under the pressure of a high-heeled shoe. This is not mere destruction; it is an act of power. The keys, stained in red, evoke both ink and blood — writing and wound. The word does not disappear; it bleeds.
The work reflects on contemporary censorship: no longer only institutional, but cultural, social, and often subtle. The gesture appears elegant, almost sensual — and precisely for this reason, unsettling. Suppression does not always arrive violently; sometimes it comes through calibrated pressure, aestheticized and normalized.
The textured surface engages in a conceptual dialogue with the radical monochrome explorations and symbolic use of red by Bernard Aubertin. As in Aubertin’s nail-studded panels and fire-driven works, red here is not decorative — it is action, energy, a visual wound. Yet this piece moves beyond pure abstraction, introducing a strong figurative narrative in which an everyday object becomes a stage for political and psychological tension.
“CENSORED” does not document censorship as a past event; it stages the precise moment in which it happens.
